What is Melasma?

  • Melasma is a tan or dark skin discoloration. It is thought to be caused by sun exposure, genetic predisposition, hormone changes, and skin irritation. Although it can affect anyone, melasma is particularly common in women, especially pregnant women and those who are taking oral or patch contraceptives or hormone replacement therapy medications.

What is Chloasma?

  • Chloasma is a skin condition that can affect 50-70% of pregnant women. It is characterized by symmetrical patches of dark skin, commonly seen on the cheeks, upper lip, forehead, and chin, that can resemble a mask pattern.
